This new money has resulted in a flood of mergers, acquisitions, and new players in the association technology market. How does the investment tsunami affect your organization’s members and day to day operations? Are your technology providers among the merged or acquired? Who are these investors? What are their motivations? What should you do if your technology vendor is acquired or merged? Get the answers to these questions from the leaders of association technology companies that have been acquired and from leaders that are operating privately.

All attendees have an opportunity to submit a title + brief description of a session on anything related to AMS or technology — yes, seriously anything. During the event, attendees will real-time vote on what topics they think should be discussed during the afternoon’s time slots. The two sessions with the most votes will determine the crowdsourced sessions. It’s 20 minutes of content and 10 minutes of Q/A. So it’s quick and to the point. Got the chops to deliver a crowdsourced session? Submit here.

Meet the AMS Company – Five Slides in Five Minutes
10:55 – 11:15 | 1:50 – 2:10

During AMS Fest (Day 1) you’ll get to see each of the AMS Companies present Five Slides in Five Minutes. Companies that are present will have five minutes to share their DNA: Who They Are; Who They Serve (size, industry, membership type, budget); and Why They Do What They Do. This will be beneficial for attendees looking to identify with who could be a potential fit and eliminate those that aren’t a good fit. This will also help you identify what AMS company demos you should participate in on Day 2.

Deep Dive: THIS is What Actually Happens During Selection
8:50 – 9:40
Facilitated by Wes Trochlil, Owner, Effective Database Management

You can read or listen to lectures all day about the AMS selection process. But what really happens when the rubber hits the road? In this session you’ll hear the perspective of an association executive (Steven Humphrey, Director of Technology Services at Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine) who recently went through both the AMS selection (and implementation) process. He’ll share with you all the ups and downs of this process, including what to expect from your vendor, your staff, and your board. You’ll also get tips from a long-time industry consultant Wes Trochlil on how to make both of the phases of this process less painful and far more successful.

And the choices you make around technology have a direct impact on culture, so be intentional about it. ImageDisplay.aspxDeep Dive: How to be an AMS Implementation Project Management Ninja
12:50 – 1:40

Facilitated by Joanne Rang, Owner, ITAG
Project management is a methodical approach to planning and guiding project processes from start to finish with specific milestones, goals, and outcomes to be achieved. All projects are constrained by three factors: time, cost, and scope. In this deep dive session with PM ninja, Joanne Rang, you’ll learn how to develop a project plan, define and confirm the project goals and objectives, identifying how tasks will be accomplished, quantifying the resources needed, and determining budgets for completion. Most importantly you’ll learn the techniques to managing the implementation of the project plan, along with operating regular “controls” to ensure that there is accurate information on performance relative to the plan, and the mechanisms to implement recovery actions where necessary. If you are facing implementation or in the throes of it, don’t miss this session that will give you the tools to be a ninja, too. Hi-ya!

Ryan's headshotDeep Dive: Tug of War or Row Team Harmony: Striking the Balance between Local Chapter Autonomy and National Control
12:50 – 1:40

Facilitated by Ryan Felps, President of StarChapter
Chapters have an inherent need to express themselves locally. Nationals move to keep all chapters in line and consistent. Often this can cause friction and a tug of war between national and local chapters. But this doesn’t have to be the case. It’s not win or lose. Join us in our deep dive as we explore ways to strike a balance and have chapters and nationals work in harmony.

Kyle_HeadshotDeep Dive: Chapters vs Tech Changes. How to Exit the Ring With a Win
3:00 – 3:50

It seems that chapter-based associations and AMCs have to fight the toughest to integrate new tech with their constituency. Chapters can be rogue or autonomous and AMCs have so many competing priorities. In this session with technology gurus from Billhighway, we’ll examine leadership techniques and process streamlining so that next time you introduce a new technology or program, you come out on top.

gretchen-steenstra-summit2015Deep Dive: Is Your AMS Out of Shape? Learn how your current or new system can achieve beach body status!
3:00 – 3:50
Facilitated by Gretchen Steenstra, Senior ConsultantDelCor
It’s not your trainer’s fault that you’re out of shape. It’s the same with your AMS – how can you expect it to be a peak performer when it’s weighed down by ‘creative’ or inefficient business processes and junk data? Achieving system strength and fitness requires a good coach who develops a reasonable plan that everyone will follow along. Add a little discipline and you will start to see results. During the session, we’ll work together to build your system training skills: Identify the true problem with your current system fitness plan; Develop a reasonable plan that works for your organization; Learn about techniques to stay on track; Identify when you’re cheating. Now drop and give me 50!

AMS Live – Company Demonstrations
Altai Systems, Aptify, AxisImpexiumiMIS, MatrixMaxx, MemberNation, Nimble AMS

Attendees want to see, touch, and experience the platforms. Here’s the plan: You’ll get to see the AMS Companies in action for their 5 minute time on Day 1. Based on their DNA (Who They Are, Who They Serve, and Why They Do What They Do) you’ll determine what AMS companies you would like to see demo during AMS Live on Day 2. AMS Companies will demo for 40 minutes with 10 minutes of Q/A. Better yet? AMS Companies will be inviting their clients to attend alongside their demo and you can ask questions of them as well. Where else can you experience that?

Day 1: AMS Fest

Thought Leader Sessions

Industry thought leaders have stepped up to share their association’s experiences on how they’ve overcome an AMS challenge or implemented an innovative idea around their AMS. Be prepared! They will present you with all the meatiest insights on the topic in just 20 minutes (followed by 10 minutes of Q/A).

What’s especially cool? These are people just like you. They were in the process not that long ago and passionate about what they do.

Panels

We admit that we’ve been refining the content delivery of AMS Fest. Golly, it’s been a true work in progress. The crowdsourced sessions of past have been a hit (and a few a miss) but overall what we’re hearing is that attendees have lots of burning questions regarding so many of the facets of AMS selection, implementation, integration, etc. Panels are a great way to have an open conversation with some of the smartest and in-the-know association professionals you can find.

What’s especially cool? We’re working on bringing in panelists that are CEOs from the AMS companies, best in the business consultants and of course association professionals that are actually doing this stuff. These experts that will be at your disposal for any and every question around the subject matter. I dare you to stump them!

Day 2: Roll Up Your Sleeves Day

Last AMS Fest Midwest there was a theme. “We want more!” So, in order to deliver on that, we’re bringing the heat. This second day of content isn’t for the weak or faint of heart. It’s for those that are ready to roll up sleeves and get dirty. This won’t be for everybody — only those that are ready to have a deeper understanding of implementations, APIs, new laws, hiring consultants, and more.

Deep Dive

There simply isn’t enough time in one day to do more than cut the surface so that’s why Deep Dive sessions will be in roundtable formats with experts facilitating the conversation and sharing best practices and resources. You’ll get to be elbow-to-elbow with those that are in the same position as you and looking for detailed answers to complex questions. Everything you are still pondering from Day 1, we’ll conquer on Day 2.

AMS Live Vendor Demos + Existing Client Experience

Alright, alright. We get it. Attendees want to see, touch, and experience the platforms. Better yet? They want to talk with existing clients that are using that platform. AMS Companies will demo for 45 minutes with 15 minutes of Q/A.

What’s especially cool? AMS Companies will be inviting their clients to attend alongside their demo and you can ask questions of them as well. Where else can you experience that?

Stay tuned for the September 2016 Speaker/Panel lineup. Know of a rockstar? Send’em my way: teri@reviewmyams.com.
